Avast, me hearties! There be a treasure map out there ~ and it’s in today’s pirate lunch!
So weigh anchor and hoist the mizzen! It’s time for lunch!
When I first started Bento Ninja, I made a pirate lunch that I absolutely loved, but I was still getting my bento sea legs back then and it isn’t my best photo. I used that first pirate lunch ever as inspiration for today’s treasure map bento lunch.

Treasure Map Sandwich:
Use a sharp knife to cut an uneven, parchment shape, then use food markers to draw your map right on the bread. This map takes our pirates past an island of palm trees and sea monster before they reach the X that marks the spot.
Hard Boiled Eggs, packed in black silicone cups, and accented by using food markers directly on the shells
Carrot Sticks and Hummus, with a friendly pirate on top
Apple Slices, accented with hook and skull and crossbones food picks
Packed with our trusty Funkins pirate themed cloth napkin
About the Tools in this Lunch
One of my favorite aspects of this lunch is that it utilizes a minimal amount of tools – I always say that themed bentos don’t have to be expensive or require a huge collection of accessories. If you eliminate the food picks and ring, this lunch will still be perfect for any little pirate – all you need are my two favorite basic bento tools – a sharp knife and a pack of food markers! My favorite food markers are the Americolor Gourmet Writers. If you do add food markers to your lunches, always be sure to wipe the tip with a damp paper towel after use to prevent foot particles from sticking to the tip.
