Happy Roald Dahl Day! Beloved UK author Roald Dahl would have been 100 years old today – and every year on September 13th, there are events celebrating his life and work all over the world. I’m super jealous of all the kids in the UK that got to dress up as Roald Dahl characters for school today!
We’re using a lot of Roald Dahl’s works as our read aloud books this year, so of course we just had to celebrate with a lunch as well! We just finished The BFG yesterday and absolutely LOVED it. We had so much fun imagining dreams, worrying about Sophie, and of course, meeting Her Majesty.
Today’s bento is in honor of The BFG – and the perfect time to break out my Cath Kidson guards lunch boxes that came from the UK! (Can you tell I’m an anglophile?)
In The Large Guards Box
Dream Jar Sandwich:
Cut any sandwich with a mason jar cookie cutter, add lid detail with a food marker, cut a small rectangle of cheese and write a dream label from the book, then “glue” on to the sandwich with peanut butter or alternative seed butter. I used the dream “I HAS A BEE THAT MAKES ROCK AND ROLL MUSIK WHEN IT FLIES”
Trumpet Shaped Cheese and Mini Nut Thins Crackers, packed in a crown shaped silicone cup
Elephant Shaped Apple Slices, in a crown shaped silicone cup
In the Small Guards Box
Raspberries and Italian Plums, packed in a castle window silicone cup from a friend in the UK and accented with helicopter picks and the Union Jack
The BFG’s Suitcase, packed with 2 Annie’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Bites
Raisins
We loved The BFG so much and can’t wait to start our next Roald Dahl book – what’s your favorite? Let us know in the comments!
