My kid has been wanting to start ice hockey lessons for about 2 years now, and is finally old enough for intro hockey – awesome!
Or at least, it was awesome, until I found out that we had to leave the house to get to hockey at 6:15 am. Every Weekend. Now…Bento Ninja is a great many things, but a Morning Person she is not. Ever see the screenshots of people’s phone alarms set at 10 minute intervals? That’s me.
So for the entire week leading up to the start of the hockey season, I’ve been worried and wondering how to make it happen – get up, get the kid up, get us both ready and fed, and get to the rink with enough time to get all suited up. What’s a ninja to do?
Several people have been recommending EasyLunchboxes to me since I started doing bento, and I have to admit…I was skeptical at first. How could something that inexpensive ($13.95/set of 4) be sturdy enough to be worth buying? After realizing I needed to start packing breakfasts the night before hockey for at least 2 of us each week, I thought it was time to give them a try.
I ordered the urban colors EasyLunchboxes set and the mini dippers, and from the minute I unpacked the box, I fell in love with them! They are AWESOME! The plastic is very sturdy, the lids fit on snugly (but not leakproof) and the dippers fit well.
After I got them all unpacked and washed (in the dishwasher, bonus!), it was time to put them to the test. I packed breakfast the night before hockey practice for both myself and my kid.
The kid has a protein packed, easy to eat in the car breakfast of:
2 Hard Boiled Eggs decorated with a Hockey Puck Cupcake Ring and Foam Finger Pick (plastic), in Blue Tie Dye Silicone Cups
Trader Joe’s Cherry Squishers Yogurt
Bite Sized Strawberries on Foam Finger Picks
Pumpkin Seeds in the Mini Dipper (I put the lid on after the picture!)
Trader Joe’s “This Pumpkin Walks into a Bar” Cereal Bar cut into 3 easier to handle pieces in a Black Silicone Cup, decorated with a Hockey Puck Ring
Bento Ninja’s Hockey Mom Breakfast:
Would you believe this is the first time I’ve ever packed a bento for myself?
In my breakfast:
2 Babybel White Cheddar Cheeses
Nature’s Valley Oats ‘n Honey Protein Granola in a Mini Dipper (I put the lid on after the picture)
Trader Joe’s Strawberry Squishers Yogurt
Bite Sized Strawberries and Grapes in Tie Dye Silicone Cups
My kid ate breakfast in the car both before and after hockey, and I ate my breakfast in the bleachers while watching practice. We both had plenty of food in our EasyLunchboxes and had plenty of energy to get through our early morning.
Here I am in the bleachers, with my EasyLunchbox on my lap – so delicious, so convenient! I wish I had ordered them sooner, and I’m sure they will get a lot of use in our house!
Thank you, EasyLunchboxes, for helping get us out the door and fueled for our day on a very, very early morning!
