One of our favorite stories is the Mi’kmaw legend of Muin and the Seven Bird Hunters. It is the story of Muin (Ursa Major/the Big Dipper), and the Seven Bird Hunters that pursue Muin around the North Star.
After hearing the legend told in person, we purchased Muin and the Seven Bird Hunters – a beautifully illustrated, bilingual (English and Mi’kmaq) telling of the legend of Muin and read it often, as well as point out Muin whenever we see her in the sky.
The legend of Muin inspired this bento lunch. This has been one of my favorite lunches so far, and I hope it inspires others to explore the wonderful legend of Muin.
Bear Sandwich, representing Muin, placed on top of veggie booty and surrounded by Seven Cheese Stars, representing the bird hunters (the remaining stars are in the silicone cup, and the cutter is from this Ikea set)
